THE AFRICAN PRINT

The African print is generally known as Ankara.
Ankara prints have been in existence since the 60’s and since then the fabric has been growing tremendously.
The bold and colorful print called Ankara has gained recognition and patronage by the African and black American women all over the world.

Ankara can be designed and styled into different pieces. My love for fashion and style can be implemented with the use of Ankara because I can come up with my own design and material, which can be sewn to my size.  It’s amazing!!!

These days, Ankara can be found already made and ready to wear. Top African/UK designers like Jewel by Lisa and Maze Couture, make their collections with Ankara and sometime merge the pieces with other materials and embellish them with clothing accessories.

A few days ago I was privileged to attend THE AFRICAN FASHION WEEK LONDON (AFWL) which took place in central London. Through this fashion show I learnt that Ankara can be used to make so many things, examples are dresses, tops, blouses, blazers, shirt jumpsuits and even accessories.

Ready to wear Ankara is now available on Asos (online shopping) and even Aldo has invested in some Ankara made shoes and clutch purses.

African designers have invested in making modern (Ankara) prints example are vlisco print, diva print, wooden prints and so on. These prints make Ankara look modern and high fashioned.
